Step It Up… Rooted In Nature

Hello and welcome to the latest in my Step It Up Series! This follows on from my Stampin’ Basics Series which looked at everything you need to start your stamping and some hints and tips on how to get better results from your stamping. Now we are moving on to the ways in which you can take your projects to the next level!

In each episode we will look at a simple stamping project (just stamps, ink and cardstock needed) and explore different techniques and products that can be used to ‘Step It Up’.

If you would prefer to watch me create the cards, simply scroll to the end of this blog post where you will find my video tutorial.

Today I’m using the Stampin’ Up! Rooted In Nature Stamp Set, and this is my ‘simple stamping’ project…

Stampin' Up! Rooted In Nature Card by Helen Chapman Handmade Crafts

Let’s Make It…

The (standard A6) card base is created from Crumb Cake cardstock. This is followed by a layer of Whisper White cardstock measuring 10 x 14.4 cm, which forms the main card front.

Onto the card front, I have repeatedly stamped the sentiment in Terracotta Tile ink, using multiple generations. I have then stamped the foliage images in Crumb Cake and Early Espresso ink.

Step It Up… Version 1

Stampin' Up! Rooted In Nature Card by Helen Chapman Handmade Crafts

As in the previous example, the card base is created from Crumb Cake cardstock. This time, the Whisper White card front layer measures 9.5 x 13.9 cm.

I have stamped the foliage in Crumb Cake and Early Espresso ink, as previously, but this time they are cut out using the coordinating Nature’s Roots Dies. This are adhered to the card front as shown.

A length of Terracotta Tile Scalloped Linen Ribbon is wrapped around the card front and adhered at the back using Tear & Tape. The card front can then be adhered to the card base.

The sentiment is stamped in Terracotta Tile ink onto Whisper White cardstock and cut out using one of the Stitched Rectangle Dies. The next two largesr dies are used to cut out pieces of Early Espresso and Crumb Cake cardstock. These are layered together with the sentiment and adhered to the card front.

Step It Up… Version 2

Stampin' Up! Rooted In Nature Card by Helen Chapman Handmade Crafts

As in the previous two cards, the card base is created from Crumb Cake cardstock. This is followed by a layer of Early Espresso cardstock measuring 10 x 14.4 cm. The card front is formed by a layer of Whisper White cardstock measuring 9.5 x 13.9 cm. In this case, the card front is embossed using the Pinewood Planks 3D Embossing Folder.

The foliage and sentiment piece are created as in the previous card but this time the foliage is adhered to the back of the sentiment piece.

A length of Terracotta Tile Scalloped Linen Ribbon is doubled over and adhered to the back of the sentiment piece using Tear & Tape. A length of Braided Linen Trim is tied around the ribbon to add extra decoration. The whole piece is then adhered to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Lovely You Smile Card

Hello and welcome! Today I’d like to share with you a card I created for a Colour Inspiration Challenge. I could not resist this colour scheme (see image below) so I created this Stampin’ Up! Lovely You Smile Card…

Stampin' Up! Lovely You Smile Card by Helen Chapman Handmade Crafts

Let’s Make It…

Start with a Basic Black (standard A6) card base. Next cut a layer of Melon Mambo cardstock to 8.5 x 12.9 cm. The main card front is a layer of Whisper White cardstock measuring 8.2 x 12.6 cm.

Stamp the foliage around the edge of the card front in Just Jade ink. Concentrate on filling the top right corner, round clockwise, to the bottom left corner. Next stamp a few of the flower images in Melon Mambo ink.

Trim a piece of Basic Black cardstock to 2.5 x 8 cm and shape using the Lovely Labels Pick A Punch. Also shape a piece of 1.9 x 9 cm Melon Mambo cardstock and a piece of 1.2 x 8 cm Whisper White cardstock.

Stamp the ‘smile’ sentiment onto the Whisper White strip in Just Jade ink. Stamp over to the left hand edge of the strip. Layer up all the labels using Multipurpose Liquid Glue and adhere to the card front using Stampin’ Dimesionals.

For the final touch, add a few Rhinestone Basic Jewels around the card.

What do you think to my Lovely You Smile Card?

I hope you like my Stampin’ Up! Lovely You Smile Card. Do you like this colour scheme? I think the contrast between the Basic Black and the Melon Mambo and Just Jade is fabulous! It seems to make them look even more vibrant.

Stamp the ‘hey there’ sentiment in Early Espresso ink onto Very Vanilla cardstock. Cut out the sentiment using the banner die from the Tasteful Labels Dies. Cut another banner from Copper Brushed Metallic cardstock and adhere the banners together with an offset.

Adhere the sentiment to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

What do you think to my Changing Leaves with Beautiful Autumn Card?

I hope you like my Changing Leaves with Beautiful Autumn Card. I love this combination of earthy colours with the hint of metallic cardstock. I think Very Vanilla works really well with these colours and is definitely my go-to card base / card front when using these tones.

In Good Taste Treat Cup

Hello and welcome! Today I’d like to share with you my Stampin’ Up! In Good Taste Treat Cup! These Mini Coffee Cups are part of the Heartwarming Hugs Suite but it feels a little soon for Christmas themed projects so I’ve used them with the In Good Taste Suite to create a gift holder that can be used all year round. The Stamp Set and Dies form the Warm Hugs Bundle which is also part of the Suite.

Let’s Make It…

Use the Warm Wraps Dies (part of the Warm Hugs Bundle) to cut out the two sections of the wrap from the In Good Taste Designer Series Paper (DSP). Apply Tear & Tape to the tabs and adhere to form one piece. Insert the cup into the wrap and adhere if required.

Wrap a length of Petal Pink Organdy Striped Ribbon around the cup and tie in a bow at the top. Tie a length of Night of Navy Ribbon (for the Playing With Patterns Ribbon Combo Pack) to the bow and allow the tails to trail down the cup.

Stamp the ‘for you’ sentiment onto Petal Pink cardstock in Night of Navy ink and cut out using the coordinating ‘ring’ die. Use the larger circle die to cut out a piece of the DSP.

Adhere to of the small leaves from the In Good Taste Elements to the back of the ring of Petal Pink cardstock. Adhere to the DSP circle using Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals. Adhere one of the large leaves to the back of the DSP circle. Finish with one of the wooden hexagons and adhere to the cup using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

What do you think to my In Good Taste Treat Cup?

I hope you like my Stampin’ Up! In Good Taste Treat Cup. These cups are a really nice size for a small gift – something coffee related would be perfect (or maybe hot chocolate later in the year)!
