Set Sail In The Direction Of Your Dreams!

Hello and welcome! Today I’d like to share with you a card I created as part of the Stampin’ Up! #keepstamping challenge. This challenge involved using the colour combination Coastal Cabana, Pretty Peacock, Crumb Cake and Early Espresso.

If you would prefer to watch me create the card, simply scroll to the end of this blog post where you can watch my video tutorial.

I immediately thought that the combination of Coastal Cabana and Pretty Peacock would suit some sort of sea scape so I decided to use the Stampin’ Up! Sailing Home Stamp Set and coordinating Smooth Sailing Dies…

Let’s make it…

The (standard A6) card base is created from Early Espresso cardstock and this is followed by a 10 x 14.4 cm layer of Shimmery White cardstock.

To the Shimmery White cardstock layer, I added Coastal Cabana and Pretty Peacock inks using a Sponge Brayer. I then spritzed water onto this using a Stampin’ Spritzer. The excess water was dabbed off using my trusty crafting tea towel!

Once the card front was dry, I stamped the birds in Early Espresso ink. The sentiment is also stamped in Early Espresso ink, this time onto Crumb Cake cardstock. This is cut out using the label die from the Smooth Sailing Dies. I have distressed the edges of the die cut using a distressing tool. If you don’t have a distressing tool, you could use the blade of a pair of scissor (but please be careful!).

The ship’s wheel is cut out of Early Espresso cardstock and adhered to the back of the sentiment piece. The whole piece is then adhered to the card front using Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

This is a really simple card to create but I think the background gives it a lovely dramatic effect.
