Lovely You Smile Card

Hello and welcome! Today I’d like to share with you a card I created for a Colour Inspiration Challenge. I could not resist this colour scheme (see image below) so I created this Stampin’ Up! Lovely You Smile Card…

Stampin' Up! Lovely You Smile Card by Helen Chapman Handmade Crafts

Let’s Make It…

Start with a Basic Black (standard A6) card base. Next cut a layer of Melon Mambo cardstock to 8.5 x 12.9 cm. The main card front is a layer of Whisper White cardstock measuring 8.2 x 12.6 cm.

Stamp the foliage around the edge of the card front in Just Jade ink. Concentrate on filling the top right corner, round clockwise, to the bottom left corner. Next stamp a few of the flower images in Melon Mambo ink.

Trim a piece of Basic Black cardstock to 2.5 x 8 cm and shape using the Lovely Labels Pick A Punch. Also shape a piece of 1.9 x 9 cm Melon Mambo cardstock and a piece of 1.2 x 8 cm Whisper White cardstock.

Stamp the ‘smile’ sentiment onto the Whisper White strip in Just Jade ink. Stamp over to the left hand edge of the strip. Layer up all the labels using Multipurpose Liquid Glue and adhere to the card front using Stampin’ Dimesionals.

For the final touch, add a few Rhinestone Basic Jewels around the card.

What do you think to my Lovely You Smile Card?

I hope you like my Stampin’ Up! Lovely You Smile Card. Do you like this colour scheme? I think the contrast between the Basic Black and the Melon Mambo and Just Jade is fabulous! It seems to make them look even more vibrant.

Step It Up… Lovely You

Hello and welcome to the first of my Step It Up Series! This follows on from my Stampin’ Basics Series which looked at everything you need to start your stamping and some hints and tips on how to get better results from your stamping. Now we are moving on to the ways in which you can take your projects to the next level!

In each episode we will look at a simple stamping project (just stamps, ink and cardstock needed) and explore different techniques and products that can be used to ‘Step It Up’.

If you would prefer to watch me create the cards, simply scroll to the end of this blog post where you will find my video tutorial.

Today I’m using the Stampin’ Up! Lovely You Stamp Set, and this is my ‘simple stamping’ project…

Stampin' Up! Lovely You Cards by Helen Chapman Handmade Crafts

Let’s make it…

The (standard A6) card base is created from Granny Apple Green cardstock. This is followed by a layer of Mango Melody cardstock measuring 10 x 14.4 cm. Next is a layer of Whisper White cardstock measuring 9.5 x 13.9 cm which forms the main card front.

Onto the card front I have stamped one of the foliage images from the Lovely You Stamp Set, a number of times, in Granny Apple Green ink. The small flower image is also stamped repeatedly in both Mango Melody and Daffodil Delight ink.

The sentiment is stamped in the bottom right hand corner of the card front in Granny Apple Green ink.

This is a really quick and simple card to make and is great for beginners or those short on time. However, what if you are ready it step up your projects or you want to spend a little longer creating a really special card? Well, there are many options and that is the purpose of this series. Today we are going to look at two alternative cards…

Step It Up… Version 1

Stampin' Up! Lovely You Cards by Helen Chapman Handmade Crafts

In version 1, the main card is very similar to the first example – a Granny Apple Green card base, followed by Mango Melody layer and a Whisper White card front.

The only difference in the stamping on the card front is that I have stamped the images all over rather than leaving the space for the sentiment. The sentiment is instead stamped onto a separate piece of Whisper White cardstock which is trimmed to 2 x 7 cm and then fussy cut to follow the shape of the top of the sentiment. This is then layered onto a piece of Mango Melody cardstock measuring 9.5 x 3.8 cm.

A length of Whisper White Faux Linen Ribbon (part of the Flowers For Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack) is looped back and forth and adhered to the card front using Tear & Tape. The sentiment pieces is adhered over the ribbon using Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The final touch on this version is provided by a few Pearl Basic Jewels which have been coloured using the Dark Granny Apple Green Stampin’ Blends pen.

Step It Up… Version 2

Stampin' Up! Lovely You Cards by Helen Chapman Handmade Crafts

In version 2, the main card is the same as that in version 1 – a Granny Apple Green card base, followed by Mango Melody layer and a Whisper White card front.

Before adhering the card front to the card base a have wrapped a piece of the Whisper White Faux Linen Trim around it and adhered it at the back using Tear & Tape.

The sentiment is stamped in Granny Apple Green ink onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock measuring 8.5 x 1.9cm and cut out using the Lovely Labels Pick A Punch (this is available as a bundle with the Lovely You Stamp Set with a 10% discount). The same punch is also used to shape a piece of Mango Melody cardstock with original measurements of 9.3 x 2.5 cm. These pieces are layered together and adhered to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The final touch on this version is provided by a few Rhinestone Basic Jewels.

What do you think to my Step It Up Lovely You Cards?

I hope you like my ‘Step It Up Lovely You’ Cards. Which is your favourite? I hope I have managed to show you that there are many ways to create beautiful cards. We have looked at different ways to use ribbon, different types of embellishments (including colouring them with Stampin’ Blends) and different ways of displaying our sentiment – stamped directly onto the card front; layered simply using a paper trimmer and paper snips; and using the coordinating punch.

If you have any questions or comments, please leave them below or email me at helen@papercraftlife.com

Seaside Spray Colour Challenge Week 2

Hello and welcome to Week 2 of my Seaside Spray Colour Challenge! If you missed Week 1 you can find the blog post here. This week the colour combination is: Seaside Spray, Grey Granite and Early Espresso. I think this is one of the only times I realised that I had used this combination before! You can see that project using the In Good Taste Suite here.

Seaside Spray Colour Challenge 2 – the inspiration…

My inspiration for this project was the thought that we often get stuck making the same size and shape of card over and over. This is probably because we are on auto-pilot – we know the dimensions off by heart and it just happens. However, Stampin’ Up! have packs of note cards & envelopes (which are smaller than the standard A6 size) and also some really cute little 3″ x 3″ envelopes.

I decided to use one of the 3″ x 3″ envelopes to make a little note card…

Let’s make it…

The card base is created from a piece of Grey Granite cardstock measuring 3″ x 6″ and scored at 3″ along the long edge.

Using the Stampin’ Up! Lovely You Stamp Set, I stamped the foliage image repeatedly around the card front in Early Espresso ink.

The sentiment is also stamped in Early Espresso ink onto Grey Granite cardstock and cut out using one of the Stitched Shapes Dies.

A larger circle is cut from Seaside Spray cardstock using the same die set. These circles are layered together and adhered to the card front using Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

What do you think to my Seaside Spray Colour Challenge 2 Card?

I hope you like my Seaside Spray Colour Challenge 2 Card. This cute little envelopes are perfect for creating quick and simple note cards and the Lovely You Stamp Set really lends itself to these types of project.

Dots and Circles Everywhere!

Hello and welcome! Today I wanted to share a card with you that I created by colouring embossing paste with reinkers! It’s a really fun technique and allows you to add lots of colour and dimension (and sparkle too if you use the Stampin’ Up! Shimmery White Embossing Paste like I did!).

Colouring embossing paste with reinkers using Stampin' Up! products - card by Helen Chapman Handmade Crafts

Let’s make it…

The (standard A6) card base is created from Whisper White Thick cardstock. This is followed by a layer of Old Olive cardstock measuring 9.7 x 14.1 cm. The main card front is a layer of Whisper White cardstock measuring 9.5 x 13.9 cm.

The Shimmery White Embossing Paste is coloured with Coastal Cabana, Highland Heather and Gorgeous Grape ink. To do this, a put three little mounds of embossing paste onto my Silicone Craft Sheet and added a drop of reinker to each. You might find it best to do each one in turn to ensure that the embossing paste doesn’t become too hard while you are applying the other colours.

The ‘dotty’ Basic Pattern Decorative Mask was placed on top of my card front and fixed in place using washi tape. The embossing paste was then applied using a Palette Knife. I started with the Coastal Cabana in the bottom right hand corner, then the Highland Heather towards the middle of the card and finally the Gorgeous Grape towards the top left.

Lengths of Old Olive (Ornate Garden Ribbon Combo Pack) and Coastal Cabana (Playing With Patterns Ribbon Combo Pack) ribbons are attached to the card front using a staple. This is one of my favourite ways to incorporate more than one type of ribbon into a card.

The sentiment (from the Stampin’ Up! Lovely You Stamp Set) is stamped in Highland Heather ink onto Whisper White cardstock and cut out using one of the Stitched Shapes Dies. This is then layered onto a larger circle of Grey Granite cardstock.

The final touch is provided by a few Pearl Basic Jewels which have been coloured with the Dark Old Olive Stampin’ Blends.
