‘Dad’ Eclipse Card

Have you ever made an Eclipse card? I hadn’t until very recently (yesterday!) but had seen them all over social media and wanted to have a go.

With Father’s Day coming up and ‘Dad’ being a nice, short word, I thought this would be the perfect time to try it.

My base card is Merry Merlot cardstock, followed by layers of Night of Navy and Basic Grey. The main card front is Whisper White and I have stamped a number of the images from the Geared Up Garage Stamp Set in the coordinating colours.

The tricky part…

Then comes the tricky part! You need to try to line up the letters so that they are straight and equally spaced. I used a piece of (straight) scrap cardstock to get the letters straight across the card and then cut the first and last letters before placing the middle letter die centrally between them. I think I just about got it right. Any ‘holes’ in the letters need to be adhered back in place. I found it easiest to place the die cut back into the cardstock to do this. Then the main letters are adhered using dimensionals. This gives a lovely effect because the lettering is really subtle as it merges back into the card front.

Note…

I have used the Large Letters dies which will have retired by the time you read this (!) but there are some new letter dies coming in the 2019-20 Annual Catalogue; or you could make life easier by using any word dies you may have.

Now it’s your turn…

What do you think? If you are going to try it I would recommend starting with short words until you get the hang of it. Practice a few times before agreeing to create a card for Great Aunt Philomena’s Birthday!
