Step It Up… Lovely You

Stampin' Up! Lovely You Cards by Helen Chapman Handmade Crafts

Hello and welcome to the first of my Step It Up Series! This follows on from my Stampin’ Basics Series which looked at everything you need to start your stamping and some hints and tips on how to get better results from your stamping. Now we are moving on to the ways in which you can take your projects to the next level!

In each episode we will look at a simple stamping project (just stamps, ink and cardstock needed) and explore different techniques and products that can be used to ‘Step It Up’.

If you would prefer to watch me create the cards, simply scroll to the end of this blog post where you will find my video tutorial.

Today I’m using the Stampin’ Up! Lovely You Stamp Set, and this is my ‘simple stamping’ project…

Let’s make it…

The (standard A6) card base is created from Granny Apple Green cardstock. This is followed by a layer of Mango Melody cardstock measuring 10 x 14.4 cm. Next is a layer of Whisper White cardstock measuring 9.5 x 13.9 cm which forms the main card front.

Onto the card front I have stamped one of the foliage images from the Lovely You Stamp Set, a number of times, in Granny Apple Green ink. The small flower image is also stamped repeatedly in both Mango Melody and Daffodil Delight ink.

The sentiment is stamped in the bottom right hand corner of the card front in Granny Apple Green ink.

This is a really quick and simple card to make and is great for beginners or those short on time. However, what if you are ready it step up your projects or you want to spend a little longer creating a really special card? Well, there are many options and that is the purpose of this series. Today we are going to look at two alternative cards…

Step It Up… Version 1

Stampin' Up! Lovely You Cards by Helen Chapman Handmade Crafts

In version 1, the main card is very similar to the first example – a Granny Apple Green card base, followed by Mango Melody layer and a Whisper White card front.

The only difference in the stamping on the card front is that I have stamped the images all over rather than leaving the space for the sentiment. The sentiment is instead stamped onto a separate piece of Whisper White cardstock which is trimmed to 2 x 7 cm and then fussy cut to follow the shape of the top of the sentiment. This is then layered onto a piece of Mango Melody cardstock measuring 9.5 x 3.8 cm.

A length of Whisper White Faux Linen Ribbon (part of the Flowers For Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack) is looped back and forth and adhered to the card front using Tear & Tape. The sentiment pieces is adhered over the ribbon using Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The final touch on this version is provided by a few Pearl Basic Jewels which have been coloured using the Dark Granny Apple Green Stampin’ Blends pen.

Step It Up… Version 2

In version 2, the main card is the same as that in version 1 – a Granny Apple Green card base, followed by Mango Melody layer and a Whisper White card front.

Before adhering the card front to the card base a have wrapped a piece of the Whisper White Faux Linen Trim around it and adhered it at the back using Tear & Tape.

The sentiment is stamped in Granny Apple Green ink onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock measuring 8.5 x 1.9cm and cut out using the Lovely Labels Pick A Punch (this is available as a bundle with the Lovely You Stamp Set with a 10% discount). The same punch is also used to shape a piece of Mango Melody cardstock with original measurements of 9.3 x 2.5 cm. These pieces are layered together and adhered to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The final touch on this version is provided by a few Rhinestone Basic Jewels.

What do you think to my Step It Up Lovely You Cards?

I hope you like my ‘Step It Up Lovely You’ Cards. Which is your favourite? I hope I have managed to show you that there are many ways to create beautiful cards. We have looked at different ways to use ribbon, different types of embellishments (including colouring them with Stampin’ Blends) and different ways of displaying our sentiment – stamped directly onto the card front; layered simply using a paper trimmer and paper snips; and using the coordinating punch.
